Whether you&#8217;re a <strong>civil society actor or a librarian<\/strong>, this guide will help you organize a successful game session in your community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Puzzletown?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Puzzletown transforms complex issues like municipal decision-making, budgeting, and governance into <strong>an engaging and interactive experience<\/strong>. Participants step into the roles of decision-makers, navigate challenges, and learn how municipalities function in a hands-on way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What you need to run a session<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. A suitable space<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>library, community center, or any accessible venue<\/strong> with enough room for up to <strong>25 participants<\/strong> is ideal. The space should have tables and chairs for discussions and a large enough floor area if you\u2019re using the <strong>big floor version of the game<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. The Game<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are <strong>two ways<\/strong> to organize the session:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Borrow a big floor game:<\/strong> Some libraries or NGOs already have a copy. If you don\u2019t, check with other organizers or reach out to us.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Use a table-top version:<\/strong> If a floor game isn&#8217;t available, you can print and assemble a smaller board version.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. A trained gamemaster<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Each session is led by a <strong>gamemaster<\/strong>, someone familiar with the rules and structure of the game. Ideally, this is a <strong>librarian or a civil society representative<\/strong> who has attended a <strong>training in Kyiv<\/strong> or participated in a previous session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Participants<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sessions work best with <strong>15\u201325 participants<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A mix of local activists, students, municipal employees, and engaged citizens ensures <strong>diverse perspectives<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. The session structure<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Each Puzzletown session follows this structure:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Introduction (20 min):<\/strong> Participants get a brief overview of <strong>local governance, democracy, and municipal mandates<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Game session (90 min):<\/strong> Players take on decision-making roles, experience budget trade-offs, and navigate governance challenges.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reflection and discussion (30 min):<\/strong> The most important part! Participants share insights, relate their experiences to real-life governance, and discuss takeaways.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Promoting your event<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure a successful session, <strong>spread the word<\/strong> via social media, posters, and community announcements. We\u2019ve prepared <strong>ready-to-use materials<\/strong> to make promotion easy (see resources below!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Working with the municipality<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In some cases, getting approval from the municipality or local authorities is needed.
